Throughout my graduate work and experience in counseling I have acquired crisis intervention skills, sound decision making skills, and many approaches to working with a variety of populations. I have worked with individuals with addictions, concurrent disorders and those who have experienced trauma. I approach counseling from a Person-Centered framework in which effective listening, strong communication, empathy and rapport building are foundational. I also have experience working from a cognitive behavioural perspective. I have a strong commitment to equality, and anti-oppression and believe that each individual deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. I can also provide counseling services in the Hungarian language

I have been working with children and youth for 30 years. As a nurse I worked in pediatrics, the case room and in the nursery. I also taught new moms breastfeeding and newborn care. I have worked on pediatric floors in hospital, at Rogers House supporting families in palliative care of their child, as well as working with children and youth who have special needs , experienced trauma and youth with addictions and /or high behaviors. I returned to school while facilitating a children's therapeutic home, taking several courses focused on special needs and mental health. I adopted one of the children in my therapeutic home, he has autism. I graduated with a diploma in psychology and counselling. I also took the Autism Intervenor Levels 1&2, and worked in Ontario as a BC. I facilitated a group social skills and recreation program( SNAP) , a mental heath drop in program, a vocational rehab program, a men's depression group, a teen support group and a parent training ( 15 week training course for managing high behavior). I use a person centered approach which is child lead. My programs are strength based focusing on passions and interests. I use RDI, and TBRI. My feeling is families need to understand their child, be supported with knowledge and given the tools necessary to best support their child to the Child's potential. I offer individual and group counselling, support with accessing funding, behavior support , social thinking skill building and family counselling. I also offer grief counselling, couple counselling, addictions counselling and support for those with depression, low self worth, trauma and help with vocational rehab and life skills. Accessing funding for your child or youth helps put a plan in place for much needed therapy. I can help with funding applications! Building trust is most important in a therapeutic counselling relationship. I will offer support in working towards your goals. Jaime Halan-Harris RPC, BC, RCSS Member of CPCA, VRA

Seeking counselling can be a daunting endevour. It takes awareness of your situation, courage, fortitude, and hope that allows you to commit to therapy. It takes belief that change can be achieved if you try. I work to provide a safe, supportive environment that encourages a strong therapeutic relationship between you and me, which permits you to realize your own potential for growth beyond the difficulties you face. I incorporate a mindfulness therapeutic approach with Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as Positive Psychology, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). I have worked with those experiencing difficulties due to anxiety, depression, eating disorders, abuse, anger, relationship issues, self-worthiness, sexual identification, guilt, shame, bereavement, grief, and loss. While working at Western University I also helped those dealing with motivation, procrastination, career choices, amongst other issues. Working from a social justice perspective, I recognize that not all who seek counselling are able to afford the usual professional fees and therefore provide a sliding scale for those who need it.
